Facts About Evolution

Dr. Robert A. Millikan, a physicist and Nobel prize winner, stated in a speech he made before the American Chemical Society: “The pathetic thing about it is that many scientists are trying to prove the doctrine of evolution, which no science can do.”

Evolution is Promoted By Atheists

If there is no God, there is no Creator of the universe. Therefore, atheists must come up with some kind of explanation for the material reality of the universe. The most common explanation is evolution. August Weisman admits why atheists like himself have adopted Darwin’s belief of evolution. He explained “…we accept it not because we are able to demonstrate the process in detail, not even because we can with more or less ease imagine it, but simply because we must, because it is the only possible explanation that we can conceive.”

Evolution is Not an Established Scientific Fact

Corliss Lamont, a humanist, wrote “… biology has conclusively shown that man and all other forms of life were the result, not of a supernatural act of creation by God, but of an infinitely long process of evolution probably stretching over at least two billion years” (The Philosophy of Humanism 83).

In fact, evolution is not a well established scientific fact. First, because evolution is not even a genuine theory but a hypothesis. What is the difference in science between a theory and a hypothesis? A theory is “a formulation of underlying principles of certain observed phenomena which has been verified to some degree.” Yet, no one has ever observed the evolution of one animal into another. Instead, evolution more aptly fits the definition of a hypothesis which is “an unproved theory, etc. tentatively accepted to explain certain facts.” In other words, evolution amounts to nothing more than an educated guess. Even Thomas Huxley admitted that “evolution was not an established theory but a tentative hypothesis, an extremely valuable and even probable hypothesis, but a hypothesis none the less.” Another reason why evolution is not a scientific fact is it relies on the power of logic more than the scientific method. Again August Weisman writes, “what is it that nevertheless makes us believe in this progress as actual, and leads us to ascribe such extraordinary importance to it? Nothing but the power of logic; we must assume natural selection to be the principle of he explanation of the metamorphoses, because all other apparent principles of explanation fail us, and it is inconceivable that there could be yet another capable of explaining the adaptations of organisms, without assuming the help of a principle of design” (Gerthrude Himmelfarb, Darwin and the Darwinian Revolution, 366). The third reason evolution is not a scientific fact is it fails to explain some important questions in the area of origins. The biggest questions is dealing with those missing links between one species of animal and the next. “There is not the slightest evidence that any one of the major groups arose form any other. Each is a special animal complex, related more or less closely to all the rest, and appearing therefore as a special and distinct creation.” Evolution “has not taught us how birds descended from reptiles, mammals from other quadrupeds, quadrupeds from fishes, nor vertebrates form the invertebrate stock. The difficulties, so that we do not know the origin of the echinoderms, of the mollusks, of the coelenterates, nor one group of protozoa from another…” (Homer Duncan, Secular Humanism, 16,17). Finally, evolution is based upon false evidence. Consider the missing links which have been proven to be fakes. The Piltdown man was admitted to be a hoax. The Nebraska Man was developed from a single pig’s tooth. The Java Man was fabricated from an elephant’s kneecap. Dr. Leakey’s Zinjanthrophu was made from more than four hundred different crushed skull fragments which turned out to be really a non-human vegetarian.

Evolution Takes More Faith to Believe Than Creationism

Dr. Richard Bliss, professor of biology and science education wrote, “the miracles required to make evolution feasible are far greater in number and far harder to believe than the miracles of creation” (“It Takes a Miracle for Evolution” 4). The hypothesis of evolution is based on faith, not fact. By contrast, science is a study of fact. Yes, it takes faith to accept evolution. Yes, faith in creation involves evidence. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1).

Evolution Makes an Animal Out of Man

If man is the biological product of evolution from a single-celled organism to a lizard to a primate, then he is just an animal. Man was created as a living soul. He has dominion over the animal kingdom. “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Gen. 1:26-27). Evolutionist admit man to be nothing more than an advanced animal. “Man, like the higher primates from which he is descended is a gregarious creature…” (Lamont 249). “Biologically speaking, the animal man, has been a enormous success” (Lamont 110).

Evolution Promotes Moral Decay

If man is taught that he is no more than an animal then he will feel freer to indulge in his animal-life desires. Enlightenment philosopher, Nietzshe, praised Darwin for putting an end to the basis of morality. Even Hilter’s super race based on evolution’s “survival of the fittest” brought death to millions. As Jean Paul Sartre, a French existentialist, said “if there is no God, everything is permitted.” This leaves man to direct his on steps in life when it comes to ethics. Jeremiah wrote, “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps” (10:23).

Evolution Leaves Mankind Without An Hope Beyond the Grave

The late Carl Sagan on his show Cosmos said, “The cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be.” Everett Dean Martin in The Mystery of Religion wrote, “at the end of all our strivings and efforts sees our world a frozen cloud whirling through emptiness about a cheerless and exhausted sun, bearing on its sides the marks of man’s once helpful activity, fragments of his works of art mixed with glacial debris, all waiting in the dark for millenniums until the final crash comes, when even the burned out sun shall be shattered in collision with another like it, and the story shall all be over while there is no one to remember and none to care. All will be as if it never had been.”

Jesus died on the cross to remove sin and raised from the dead to give man hope of resurrecting to eternal life. If there is not resurrection man must live a miserable hopeless existence. Paul wrote, “for if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable” (1 Cor. 15:16-19).

Conclusion

Evolution is not a viable alternative to an All-Powerful, Eternal Creator. Creationism is scientifically reasonable and feasible, takes faith based on evidence, promotes man above animals, exalts a moral standard, provides mankind with hope for life beyond the grave, and it is compatible with the teachings of the Bible. Evolution, however, offers none of these effects.
